Woodland Estate

North Hampton, NH

We met this project a few years after the client had been living in their new home. While they enjoyed many aspects of living on the 60 acre parcel and nearly 10,000 sq ft of living space, the arrival didn’t seem to satisfy the grandeur of the rest of the property. The narrow blacktop driveway that ribboned through the forest left one longing for more when finally, “arriving” at this otherwise stately residence. After many meetings with the owners it was determined that a large motor court would celebrate coming home for them as well guests. We removed a good size stand of trees, and then terraced a large open space that is appropriate to the scale of the house and nearby carriage house. The connections between all the various elements was achieved with a circular form. Walls and columns nestle the large buildings into the greater landscape. The concrete paver courtyard is bound by granite curbing. This created some large swaths of lawn that also enhance the whole experience of being on this property.
